Qualifications:
- Preferred:
- MFA degree in art or media related field.
- Teaching experience and/or demonstrated training experience.
- Extensive professional experience in art, not necessarily limited to computer/video games or animation.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Activities:
- Lecture and teach in a classroom setting on a daily basis.
- Teach fundamentals and advanced topics in character animation and character/environment modeling, texturing and lighting using Maya. Additionally, cover pre-production aspects of the pipeline, such as story, character design, and environment design.
- Provide artistic and technical support for 3D character and environment creation workflow, modeling and texturing for short cinematic projects.
- Provide creative direction and criticism to students on assignments. This can include character research and animation blocking, animation polish, character and environment design, modeling techniques and workflow, UV unwrap tools and strategies, texture creation, meaningful lighting, shading and rendering solutions.
- Teach problem solving – students need to constantly strive via research to optimize, fix and enhance an effective CG production pipeline.
- Work closely with art faculty to develop an ongoing and constantly improving curriculum that reflects industry trends.
- Organize and manage time efficiently for multiple classes.
- Grade, critique and input assignment data on a weekly basis.
- Act in the capacity of an academic advisor for students.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in art or media related field.
- At least 4 years of experience animating, modeling and texturing characters or environments in the role of Animator, Character Artist or Environment Artist in a game or cinematic team.
- Proficient in lighting and rendering in Maya.
- Skills in animating, as well as modeling and texturing hard surface, organic characters and environments.
- Very proficient artistically and technically in Photoshop painting both realistic and stylized textures for environments and characters.
- Proficient in Sculpting high-resolution environments and character models in Zbrush or Mudbox.
- Proficient in UV Mapping and unwrapping of organic forms.
- A Reel/Portfolio showing animation, CG Modeling. texturing, sculpting and 2d art skills.
