I just wanted to share this page where there is a lot of python scripting tutorials including introduction and walkthroughs of automating tasks. It's pretty handy to know scripting to speed up work and not having to redo redundant tasks.

Amazing tutorial series from Chris Zurbrigg, he also has probably one the better extended maya IDE's available as well for pretty cheap.  What I am actually currently watching through to better my Py knowledge: https://vimeo.com/channels/553642
