Hi!
The new maya ext 2 bevel looks pretty great. I did a quick script that sets the hard edges with 30 degree tolerance, and assigns bevel to hard edges, and the cleans up the occasional N-gons with meshcleanup+triangulate+quadify.
The end result is a basic-rough subd model.
It's basicly a process from Max, where I usually used Smooth (30 degree tolerance)+Quadchamfer+Turbosmooth to preview the hardsurface model.

So I finished up the script. You can get it here, if you are interested.
It lets you preview your lowres, non-subd geometry with supporting edges (based on hard edges).
Nothing too original, this method already existed in 3ds max.
It can be useful for hard-surface modeling.
