My submission for the contest revolves around a few reference ideas:



The colour scheme references the muted colours of the Galactic Empire. I will be designing the gun with indentation, found in so many sci fi movies of the 70s / 80s. Finally, I will loosely implement a circuit board design - treating the screws of the AWP as nodes.

These were the initial mock-ups of my idea tested in the workbench. I painted (very roughly) straight onto the gun to find a composition / pattern that I liked:





For the grip I envision having a raised rubber nubs look, next to indented diagonal grooves. For the main body the black areas will be indented with a textured effect, an example to follow...

Progress since the last upload:



I've added a very slight beige tint to take the edge off the white. I have also darkened the colour of the textured indent.

Another quick update:



Changes I made were; I clipped the top of the indent to match the natural horizontal line of the gun (just below the barrel), I made the indent texture lighter again - and actually I think it works much better like this, finally I pushed the beige colour a bit further - it made the pattern pop. I also continued with the design!

Nice, I like how you blocked out the design. I'm going to nab that and clean it up rather than flying by the seat of my pants . Maybe some more dark colors?

I'm going to have a look at the colours when I have finished the detailing. Although my original plan was to stay with muted colours.

I've carried on with the design, but I'm not happy with how it's looking from the first person perspective:



Now that I'm seeing the design further along, I don't think it fits the theme particularly well. When I was initially thinking about a submission for the contest I also thought about mimicking a sci fi toy gun from the 70s. I will amending this design to fit that theme, a mock-up to follow...
