Maya 2015 and Spirals

Hey everyone. I'm in a bit of a bind here and said bind is attempting to make a spiral in Maya as easy as it's done in Blender (and I'm not much of a Blender user). What I'm trying to do is make an ice cream come like the kind you'd get from a McDonald's. The following Blender tutorial models this pretty easily but Maya's available tools, unless I'm missing something, doesn't provide me with the methods to pull this off with ease.
