Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my submission! I hope you enjoy it! I tried as hard as I could to stay within the boundaries of the mil-spec tier, so I hope I didnt overdo it. If so, adjustments are easy to make so dont hesitate to let me know!
You can find out about how this texture was made by reading the posts after this one!
I feel the shape of the mp9 is a nice fit for the theme I am attempting so I went on the hunt for some reference images to help create the initial concept. I was mainly interested in the uniforms, armor decals, weapons / details, and environments to help keep a consistent visual.
After gathering the reference material, I set to work on making concept art by taking a side view screenshot of the mp9 and painting over the screenshot in photoshop until I created a design I liked.
Here is the initial concept. Everything was created by me except for the camo which I found on google. This was just a placeholder to test ideas until the design was where I wanted it. Later on when I got further into texturing the actual weapon on the UVs, I hand painted an entirely new camo pattern from scratch by looking at reference pictures of the uniforms.
Once I had completed the concept, it was time to begin texturing. Initially I copied lots of the lowres details I made for the concept onto the UV of the MP9 to test placement and readability of the design. This is why some areas of the early WIP shots are blurry. I also was using the camo from the concept temporarily until I later made my own completely handpainted camo based on uniform reference images.
At this point I went back and redid the text / skull / broken screen at proper res. The skull shape changed many times throughout the texturing process as I adjusted it to achieve the look I wanted.
