I decided to design a retro robot style Desert Eagle based off of robots such as this

This is a rough initial design of the gun:

I like the colours so far but it needs more detail so I'll be looking for new things to add.

Decided that I didn't like the plain blue colours and went for a more battleship like tough metal texture. Added a panel to the side too.

Nice work. I like the gunmetal version much, much better. I know what you were trying to do with it, but the blue wasn't cutting it.

I think the red either needs to be darkened, or should have a subtle pattern in it. Either way, best of luck

Yeah I think the same, working on the red ATM, its too smooth and not textured enough, also the handle looks funny in game so I;ll have a loot at it too.

Worked on the metal and leather today, added gradients to reduce saturation and to make it look less flat. Also started on the red today, considering making it look more like plastic than paint. Made the rivets more realistic and started work on a new panel for the top.

Touched up the zap on the grip, worked on shading metal and added a nice seam to the leather:

Most recent in-game test:

There's a weird gap left in the texture at the top of the barrel (not pictured) but apart from that I'm happy with the result so far. Decided that the type of skin could possibly be custom paint job, but will more than likely be gunsmith.

Cleaned up the metal a lot and added a sexy intake vent to the front of the barrel:

Also made some cool painted on arrows on the top:

Thanks but I think at this point it's more like an alien blaster

Also the metal is driving me nuts trying to get right.

Cleaned up the metal A LOT today. Mostly through making it lighter and reducing the white lines at the convex corners. Replaced the intake vent at the front as it was looking weird from different angles. Moved the side panel to the top because it was conflicting with the text baked into the base texture. Also started work on the AO around the centre.

MIxed the 2 metals together, added text and a red stripe. Think the gun is going to be called the space eagle at this point.

no one will ever see it when using it but that leather stitching on the grip makes me hard. That is one quality f******g detail

Made the front metal darker and more crisp, added some minor details and shaped to the back.

Started taking some 4k screenshots as the thing is basically done at this point, finished the alpha earlier today as well, all that's left is to create media for it.

Fonts used for the gun are Molot and Boom Box , both publicly available and 100% free.
I've also included a step by step guide on how I gave a retro sci-fi feel to a blocky font.
