Looking for any advice from anyone thats attended escape studios, specifically the games art courses. Is it worth the time and costs?

Also are there any other methods of covering costs out there apart from student loan/career development

There are portfolio-based scholarships. They paid for a quarter of my total school tuition.

Nice. Are these available in the uk?

Fellow Escapee here and although it was a great experience, looking back I probably would not have gone.

Simon was a great teacher but the course (12 weeks) was far too short to go over stuff in detail. I knew a fair amount of 3D before enrolling so I felt pretty comfortable but complete beginners struggled quite a lot. We were left longing for more.

I would say it's a good teaser of what the industry is about but by no means will you get a job straight off the bat after attending. You'll be spending quite a lot of time after the course honing your skills further to even get noticed.

Dropping £10,000 for a teaser isn't really worth it in my opinion but that's totally up to you!

Try out their tasters and see if you like it but I would suggest you go to an actual university or learn by yourself - there's some brilliant tutorials out there that would teach you what you need.

I enrolled on the games art course years back with Simon Fenton - the course content was great and being around a group of other like minded artists was awesome, but it's hard to justify the price of the courses there. You could save yourself a buttload of money just buying a handful of advanced tuition online and self teaching.

Regarding getting a job after the course, if you know a fair bit before attending and really bust your ass working, you might be able to get work when the course is over. There was a dude on the course who got a job at Rockstar shortly after leaving, his environment  work was pretty baws though!

Old Escapee student, Simon Fenton is a great teacher, but like every other "3D" schools, they'll just provide you with the basics. Just like Youtube, gumroad or any other website would do. The difference is, doing it in Escape means you'll have to cough up a big buck.
