This is an old idea I had for a gameartisans contest a few years back. I never finished it. I decided to go with hand painted. This is NOT finished yet. It just showing the direction I was thinking for presentation. I love the hand painted style. How can I add color variation in the textures? I only know how to paint with values. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, how do you get a hand painted look from a sculpt? Here is an
example. This style is phenomenal.

Here is my update on him. Any critique would help. I want to rename this thread to just dedicating it to learning handpainted thread. I have a lot of concepts on want to bring to life. It looks blah to me but Ive been staring at it for so long. I know there are some issues with it, but Im trying to figure out how to make it pop.
This texture is made by Beats. http://polycount.com/discussion/94448/character-bandit-hand-painted-textures
Here´s a more simple beard, with less color differences and more linear strokes. This is made by the-ottoman

The dark lines on the hands could be more straight, they are a bit all over the place right now.
Try baking to directional GRD from bottom to top, black to transparent.
the metal parts on the back are hard to see, it would be cool to see them in the same color as the metal on the front.
Hope this helps, really cool charcter
amazing work
Genesisasis - Thanks. I didn't like the pointy toe. So I decided to deviate from the concept a little.
Rasmusbagner - Thank you for taking the time to critique. I appreciate your ideas and sending the references. I wasn’t really sure how I was going to tackle the hair and stash but the image that Beats produced is exactly how I’m going to tackle it. It does have a gradient map but I didn’t think about doing it to transparent. I tossed around the idea to make the metal parts to look more like the front but I didn’t see anything I liked. I will revisit it again. Thank you.
Blade113 - Thank you for the compliment.
Inching closer to the finish line. Here is an update. This is a pose I was thinking about. Still have to finish hands, feet, hair, and some final tweaks.
