Maya - nDynamic hair curve not following base curve

Hope I'll be able to explain this clearly enough.

When you select a spline curve and go to nHair > Make Selected Curves Dynamic, this creates a dynamics-effected duplicate of the curve (known as the Output Curve) while the original becomes the base curve.

Normally, the output curve translates, rotates, and scales in accordance with the base curve as if it was parented.

However, I'm having an issue with an output curve that mysteriously does not follow the base curve at all. It is still effected by nDynamics physics but it remains in the same spot, rotation, and scale regardless of what happens to the base curve.

Now, I've been trying a work-around involving standard parenting that seems to work so far...BUT if there's a way to intentionally sever the transform connection between Output and Base curves, this would help me avoid unwanted double transforms in my rigging,

I examined the misbehaving output curve in comparison to others in the Hypershade and Hypergraph Input/Output windows but cannot isolate the cause of this glitch.

Thanks in advance for your input.
