Real Mario - Playable Character

Hi everyone. I'm looking to get feedback and critique on a project that i've been working on to help me to improve it.

I made the anim set in Maya using a character created with mixamo and fuse then set it up as a playable character in UE4.

I tried to base the run on Super Mario Bros. NES anims so it looks a bit odd.

Thanks in advance.

If you're going to do a realistic Mario, you're gonna need realistic animations. Otherwise it looks odd, as you said yourself. I'd add a transition between the idle and the run, so that the character blends from idle to walk to run, rather than idle to slow-mo run to run. The anim where he picks up the flower could use some refinement. He could probably have a heavier landing after jumping.

Overall it's a good effort, I think the only anim clip you're missing would be the walk. Work on the animations you already have and go for a different style, you can either go realistic or really try to push the poses to make it more exaggerated and snappy. If you can give Mario more personality and your own style, I think it could be a really nice project.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I'll look into improving these areas and will post an update.
I'm tempted to move towards something more exaggerated.
