Cleaning up meshes in 3ds max

So I've switched over to max over a year ago from Cinema 4D just for certain projects, and I still can't find the best way to clean up meshes that we get from all over. I'm quite frustrated with Max features that I thought would do it, but nothing seems to consistently work.

1. (Optimize in C4d) Basically I'm looking for the equivalent max tools that combine selected faces under a certain angle threshold to merge to the same polygon. Auto-Edge is similar, but then it has to be a mesh and not a poly and it doesn't always work. ProOptimizer seems to do more damage than good. What am I missing?

2. Duplicate faces and vertexes. Again simple things like weld points under a specific threshold don't seem to take care of these. I got all excited to see the xView for Overlapping Faces but then when I select it's results, it selects both duplicate faces (which is useless).

3. Why does Bridge (edges) sometimes work, and sometimes not?

4. This is probably related to the mess from the vertexes not being clean, but how do I get normals to all align when the 'align normals' button doesn't work? I'll take any suggestions on outside programs too.

5. When I'm unwrapping UVWs, how can I take a polygon selection and turn the outside edges to seams?

Any guidance would be appreciated...thanks!!
