Hey polycount!
I'd like to greet you all as I'll stay here for a while.
A bit about me:
I've graduated last year, during my course I've done few props, some animation, environment, unifinished character, even participated in quixel challenge... all that was enough to get high 2:1 which only ever proves that grades in art are meaningless.
For the past 8 months I've been trying to find myself and I've decided that out of all the things I ever did, the most fun was character art.
Time to get stuff kicking again, since I'm not easily offended by people judging my work (who am i kidding, i get super upset over critique but i just grit my teeth) so feel free to comment on everything i'll post... Actually no, I encourage you to do that as I really want to get most out of the upcoming 10 months
ACTIVELY SEARCHING FOR EMPLOYMENT AS 3D ARTIST

(substance is using gloss-spec shader so metalness didn't render)
Followed by a WIP of high poly barrels, and jerry cans
The models are quite nice man good going on that!
The textures could use some more love though they look quite flat Imho
The wear looks quite uniform and miss some realness to them.
It really hard to get away from not only adding smart materials in substance ( trust me for me as well haha )
but looking at reference there is much more to go on here.
All depends on what you have in the barrel itself.
this also counts towards the other props you have in there try to think where the wear should be most present, where do people but into when carrying them or where is it sratches the most?
But aside from this, if you really love character art so much spend your time on that, just do what you love haha
Or have you switched to more environment art?
Anyways, keep it up man! lets see that progress!
To be fair i've done a lot of tinkering with these textures not to look to generic but it seems like i need to play around with it more. -.-'
In terms of why I moved away from characters... Well, to be fair I've kinda had hunch that i might make some $$ from selling realtime high quality assets as with VR coming out, there might be a chance that demand for high quality lowpolys will increase.
But you shot me right where it hurts, I'm going to grit my teeth and go back to characterers today, because whole modelling process of these assets was far from fun that i always have with character modelling.
I guess you just cant make art without love
