Double transformation on a rig that's both smooth bound and parent constrained

I'm working on a robotic rig, where most of the parts can simply be parent constrained to the bones. I've decided that I'd like the hands to be smooth bound. It works fine til I put the bones group, geometry group, and the rig group all together into a main group and parent constrain that to a control curve. Then, when the curve is moved or transformed, the hands are double transforming. I've tested it on different model and made the same mistake, so how do I avoid this? The smooth bind is definitely making the hand mesh double transform.

Is there a way to change an input in the hypergraph connection editor that could fix this?

I'm going to duplicate new hands, freeze their transformations, paint weights, then uncheck "inherit transforms" to try to fix it, but I was just wondering if there was any way to fix it without redoing previous work.
