Doing some palate cleansing with substance. Feed back more than welcome! I'm interested if anyone has a trick for altering normal height when working with the material blend node? I'd like to get more contrast between the different materials.
Looking really good. Great details and the moss and bricks feel like 2 well done materials. The height/depth various between individual bricks I feel like could do with being increased as they all feel like their face are in-line with each other which for me doesn't sit with the overall deterioration of the bricks. But this could be related to your issue that your having with normal height. I have similar issues with a brick wall I did getting that good depth variation between the bricks. Hopefully someone experience at SD can answer this.
@LLOYDJ14 Thanks for the feedback. You're right that the brick height and angle offset is being lost =/
Made some adjustments. Reverted back to blending height of each material and simply converting at the end of the process rather than blending normals as it gave me more control. I'd still be interested if anyone knows how to pump up the height variation in materials without using tessellation.
Also any advice on dealing with the contrast between how Substance Designer renders and how Marmoset renders? Because I'm having to adjust my roughness fairly heavily for Marmoset to get accurate results.
Started something new. Concept from Felix Riaño I liked a few elements from all of them, so I decided to do a bit of a mash up. Could use CC on the block out before I move forward. Still a bit unsure of what to do around the back/post area without going too crazy, it definitely needs some blockiness at the base to ground it.
Made some changes to the pillars/ height for a better silhouette. Cleaned up the shape of the pillar topper (needs chipping/ stone detail). I wanted to try out some different ideas for the halo, but I think the shape language of the original 5 prong thing is stronger. The welding between the halo and the bronze arch is going to be weird, you can see how it clips. The sash is a bit distracting (maybe stone instead of metal would read better) so I tried the carvings from the concept instead, but again, I think the shape and Byzantine/ egyptian looking sash is cooler. Would love feedback if you've got it
Going to push some of the chipping and make some mushrooms/ moss for this next.
Thanks for the input all Here's some progress. The moss has been surprisingly difficult, I'm afraid it's too distracting. I may continue working on this, adding some more foliage and a base, but I also want to move on to other things. I would still love feedback!
Thanks @Fait The moss is a separate substance (same I used on the mossy brick substance) that I brought into painter. I also have some geo in the larger swaths of moss where it smooths over the statue, like around the base and where the pillar meets (basically just strangely shaped planes) which are just using a tiling version of the moss to give it more volume.
Working on a clean version before I go back to the moss. I could use some feedback on lighting this weirdo. Personally I like the contrast in 4. Opinions?
Thanks guys, I ended up grabbing toolbag 3 during the sale and really love the improved lighting features/ GI. I wish some of the HDRI's didn't have such strong colorization, but I guess there's always the option of doing a unique light set-up.
