Maya 2016 Normals Problem

Hi there,

I seem to be having some difficulties with my normals in Maya 2016 (Latest SP). For some reason, simple operations such as rotating or resizing pieces of my model's geometry will result in the faces turning black. I can fix this with Set to Face, but obviously this is not an acceptable solution as the problem resurfaces the next time I start adjusting the mesh. It's as though the normals are frozen and not updating properly. This issue just started recently, and I haven't been messing with the settings. This also isn't an issue with just one project either; It'll crop up even on a blank canvas now. Resetting my preferences did not help.

Anyone know what's going on?
