Hello guys,

i am new to hard surface and i want to make this piece in zbrush and only in brush. I have looked so many hard surface tutorial, but i still suck at this piece. I know in 3dsmax i could do it in minutes with edge to edge modeling, but i want to avoid programs i don't have.

I have to tell you the truth, that im sitting on this piece now for 1-2-3 days, for real! Because everytime there is another problem. There are so many way to do it, but in the middle i stop.

My biggest problem is the whole form/shape.

1. First i have thought about it, what techniques i should use?
2. i started to paint in shadowbox the white shape and dynameshed it.
3. then i use the clip brush and the slice curve (i don't know which is better for this) , to cut geometry the the shape fits.
4. Then i try to make the yellow and the red shape. I try to extrude these polys down and rotate them but its soon hard. For the yellow one i masked the white shape with the red shape and then i use xtransposemaster to pull out the yellow shape down. The same i make with the red shape.
5. At this stage i don't know, if i am right or wrong. I don't know, if dynamesh was a good idea.

6. Now should i retopo the shape and Dynamesh it with a high resolution and then i use pinch and dam standard and i make the holes.

7. If this is all done, i retopo everything again???
8. Then crease everything and subdivide?

Oh, my head is confused now totally. It is soon different to model hard surface, than anatomy..

Well, my personal problem is, that i don't know where to start with such a shape. I don't get it!!!
