[3dsMax/Zbrush] Hair and Fur Hair doesnt follow Fibermeshguides correctly

Hi there,

i have this issue that my fibermesh guides in 3ds max are completly diffrent then my result. I had this before, if i try to make something smooth or curley looking it is always edgy or straight.

this are the fibermesh guides

curley

this is my result...

so if anyone knows what is going on there, please tell me, then i can make curley hairs :S.

thx

don't quote me on this, but I think Hair and Fur guides have a very limited number of vertices. It's like a spline with 10 or 11 vertices (don't know how much actually) so You won't be able to get these crazy curly results using only guides.
I think You should try a different approach here. Your Guides should be pretty much straight, defining the length and direction of the overall hair mass. and then You should play with Frizz, Kink, Flyaway and other parameters to get the results You want.

actually.. If You're going to work with hair a lot, forget Hair and Fur and invest in Ornatrix, Hairfarm or smth. "Hair and Fur" pretty much sucks in my opinion.

thank you for your replay. I know it is realy limited im not sure if i will continue doing charakters or using hair and fur systems much, so for now i stick with this limied system build in 3ds :D

I will try your way, maybe that works, if its not good enough i could at least take the fibers as geometry thats the last way :).

    Thanks for your answer

@armians is correct. The guides are just a proxy to determine general shape and direction. Then use the kink/frizz/etc parameters to generate the afro. So you don't need that amount of spline guides from Zbrush, but just enough to approximate the style you want. The hair and fur mod does actually represent the imported fibremesh quite well as long as you use a sensible spline guide.

what do you mean by sensible spline guide? I tried it with some splines but wasnt so happy with the result. The curles are to edgy and not realy round and smooth.

btw i also tried this http://www.3dtotal.com/admin/new_cropper/tutorial_content_images/2123_tid_8a.jpg
once and the outcome wasnt smooth either. So maybe i miss something to generate the right shape, maybe the sensible spline thing?

    thx.

I just meant that you've imported a crazy amount of splines from the fibremesh. You only need enough to represent the hairstyle.
    Have you tried @armians method?

ah ok. Yea i tried it but i couldnt achieve the result i wanted. Its edgy and not realy smooth little curles. It always feels like it has not enough vertex points to get the smooth curve or the same length. But only thing i can change are the segments i guess and at 50 its limited.
