Good topology/technique for cartoon hands?

Hi, I'm trying to find a good topology/technique to model some chunky cartoon hands similar to these.. http://www.sketchbot.tv/blog/surgeprotector

ive come across plenty of tutorials, but they all seem to differ and some can be quite complex. I was wondering if there was a simple one I could use for such a cartoon character. Would anybody have any good suggestions?
