thank you for sharing your workflow for the hair man! Never seen the duplicated model + painted mask before, great stuf. Model looks awesome, I'd suggest a bit more gradual transition from hair to sking though.

Here is the fur steps:
1. I rendered flat b&w texture in 3ds max using Hair&fur
2. In Substance painter I created new projection tool with material
3. I painted texture, mixed it with overlay mode and did some color corrections
4. I painted new mask for this texture
5. I duplicated head mesh and sliced it into pieces, then I pushed pieces upwards. Some pieces were copypasted to increase density

Model looks awesome, I'd suggest a bit more gradual transition from hair to sking though.
LLROBINLL, I think you're right. I added more transitional fur to his body.
