Hey everyone. I'm working on a new anatomical piece. This is Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm working on sculpting out his basic anatomy. I want to get it all just right, because needless to say once the asymetrical details and tattoos get applied there is no turning back. I thought I'd open up to feedback. Bare with me I couldn't for the life of me find decent photo references of Drax or actor Dave Bautista. But what are your suggestions so far?
Hey y'all. If you are reading this, I feel that I am making progress. I feel that he is beginning to look more and more like Drax. Hopefully his muscles on his torso and arms look more detailed now. If anyone is out there, I can really use your feedback.
Hello. Nice start, but I think that you could improve the anatomy more. Batista is a WWE fighter so where are plenty photos with his "naked" body. Like this Good Luck!!
Thank you Boomer. This picture is a fantastic reference. The only difference I've noticed between Bautista and Drax is that Drax has a little more of a gut.
It's been a while but I was consumed by freelance projects last week. Here are my latest WIP images. I feel that he finally has that accurate physique to the real character in the film. I think his face finally looks like the face of Drax. The two things I'm the most concerned about are the rectus abdomini on the front torso, and the area where the sternocleidomastoid meets the clavicle. Also, I took a lot of detail out of the back. This guy is more beefy than muscular. I want to nail these secondary forms and start moving onto the tertiary details. Do you have any suggestions?
Okay, I have done some work on his secondary forms. Hopefully now his forms are finally going somewhere. Once again your feedback is very much appreciated. If you're out there....if anybody's out there.......
Hey there Mitch, your forms are looking pretty good, the main things I'm seeing are that the skull shape needs some work, make sure to look at the silhouette of the skull, cheeks and lower jaw included. The ears are in need of some work since they're pretty different from Drax's. The eyes seem to be rather flat on the skull, a little bit of curve will go a long ways I believe, same goes for the mouth. In terms of the body itself it's coming along pretty well, the biceps are looking a little round to me and the hands a little small. Keep it up!
Hey! it looks nice so far. one of the things I think you could do to make the hands look bigger is to make your fingers longer, they look pretty stubby to me right now. Also, I realize this is probably super picky, but his nose has a tiny little form above the "flair" of the nostril where some muscle connects in that you are missing.
Other then that it's looking pretty good! Good luck going forward!
Hey everybody! I'm finally back. I have a break in between indie projects, so I had some time to get back to Drax. I've done some tertiary detailing. I figured it was about time to move onto skin/pore detailing work. Let me know if you think this is becoming a little overkill. Also, keep in mind that his left arm is not yet done.

Also his head is a bit too tall at the moment.
Pull back.
Your fingers need refinement. For a strong man, his fingers should NOT look like sausages.
Also check the cranium's siilhouette against his real head.
