GoldenEye: Source is looking for a Character Artist and Character Animator

Hey there! I'm the managing director of the well established free Source mod, GoldenEye: Source. It's a first person shooter based on the hit game GoldenEye 007. We've been going strong since our initial release in 2005, but have somewhat dropped off the radar recently due to a few years of development hiatus. However, the team has been extensively reorganized and for a little over a year now we've been working on our biggest release yet. We haven't put forward much to the public, but we've made extensive overhauls to the entire game to make it new and fresh again.

This brings me to the point of the post: we've got plenty of talented developers but none of them are character artists or animators, and this has become the weakest area of our game. We've been around for so long that we have character assets that are practically a decade in age, and what was okay for 2006 is not really acceptable today.

We need:

2 Characters redone, with the possibility of new characters if you have time/interest.

A new set of character animations

It's not a huge workload but it does need to be done in a couple of months.

We'd like someone interested and capable of remaking something like this to be more like this. On the animation front, you really just need to be able to make something better than this.  We're ready and willing to help in whatever way we can to get your work up to the standard we need, but as we're mostly lacking in expertise in this area you're going to be mostly on your own when it comes to the best way to do it. It is a huge plus if you can do both of these things but we're open to hiring for modeling/animation separately.

We're also open to any additional characters you have have an interest in producing. I try to make sure that this is as rewarding for our developers as possible so if there's a character you want to add to the game in addition to what we need done I'll try to find a way to make it work.

We mostly collaborate over steam and our issue tracker. The game itself is based on the source engine and thus played through steam. The source engine does have a reputation for being difficult to work with, but luckily as a character artist you won't have to do much inside of it. We've got people who can handle the import and setup work inside the engine provided you can do everything required outside of it. Thanks to this and the fact that GE:S is an already functional game, you get to see how your work looks in-game very soon after making it.

Requirements:

Competence with your craft, being able to produce assets on par with our new standard

Ability to take suggestions/feedback

Fluent in English
