I've recently started a game project called FREERIDE with my programmer friend and wanted to make a blog of the artistic process so I can get feedback and tips. Please feel free to comment or message me anytime! I really want to learn as much as I can to make this game the best it can be.
The style I'm going for is pretty square, like pixel art though I'm trying to keep away from the Minecraft aesthetic. The character models are being done in MagicaVoxel and then ported over through Blender for rigging/animation and then into Unity. Pretty complicated, I know
...
For easy level-designing, I've also been creating the bases of the areas in Magicavoxel, optimizing them in VoxelShop and sending those straight into Unity. I then add background assets (made in Blender) to make it look less... square haha.
A BIG part of the game is picking things up and throwing them around so it's important that things render quickly. That's why everything is as low-poly as I can make it. If anyone has any tips on keeping things clean, yet low-poly I'd really appreciate it!
The game is called FREERIDE because the main character is an aspiring train conductor who gets scooped up on a magical journey. Here's the train itself:
I'm still not decided whether or not to texture it fully or leave it slightly-unfinished. I guess we'll see what sort of detail the rest of the game is done in.
Anyways, thanks for checking my Blog out! Have a great day. ;D

All the different parts of these canisters and pipes can be detached, resized and used elsewhere in the scene.
I'm trying to keep a pixelated feel while introducing non-square geometry. I'm worried some of these objects look a little sterile and would appreciate any tips people have on remedying that.
The space-cafe above is still unfinished but I plan to work a moving TV screen into the center of the restaurant area (where there's a grey square right now). I'm working in unity and have yet to figure out how to animate a texture though haha. I also might redo the crab-enjoying-tea sign as neon.
Here's the beginning of the Space-station layout as well. It's kind of like a recreation-destination for alien races and includes a lovely picnic-area and a beach. There will also be a towering shopping district across from the field. Let me know what you guys think and any critiques are hugely appreciated!
