Hand Painted Nature Scene

Working on the same assignment as many of my fellow students. A hand painted nature scene, pretty low poly. Using Photoshop, 3DS Max and 3d Coat.

Started off gathering reference, making a moodboard and painting some concepts, ended up with this:

First stage is blocking out:

I made some variations on leaves and grass, I'll redo these alpha masks later though, since these are just to get my uv's right before I start painting.

Added some twigs as well. In 3DS viewport:

Next up add some color blockout and place some vegetation. The pile of wood was quickly added by dropping them with MassFX physics instead of placing all 40 twigs by hand.

Changed some shapes, added more grass and leaves as well as material transitions. We've got dead leaves, healthy patches of green and pebbles that transition into the water.

I'm still not sure how I will blend the ground textures together yet, these are the options I'm still choosing between:
1. Cleanly aligning tile-able hand painted textures
2. Blending between them with vertex painting
3. Painting on one texture

For now this is where I'm at:

I'm thinking the silhouette looks pretty OK and proportions are right, which was my goal for this initial blockout.
Next steps are to finalize the geometry, add a bit more vegetation, UV unwrap and start painting in photoshop and 3D Coat.

I would love to hear some feedback!
Thanks
