3rd person game.
Dungeon
crawler where the player shoots basic bullets when he enters the dungeon level.
Each enemy drops a special orb that can be collected. At the start of your
dungeon there is a little critter who’s your pet. The critter can be fed these
orbs and will change in size after eating an orb. The critter will have an orb
count above its head telling us how many orbs it has currently eaten.
The level has scales spread around it. Each scale requires a certain weight,
this weight can be established by feeding the critter the required amount of
orbs. Once it has eaten the required amount, it can be pushed upon the scale to
activate certain areas. If you overfeed the critter you will not be able to
activate the scales and thus have to start over.
Once the final scale has been activate a gate opens and the critter gets reset to his default size.
---------------Style Guide---------------
The image above is my style guide. I'll be attempting some sort of handpainted textures. Though I'm still not very sure about it and we'll see how it goes a long the way. The crate in the image was a quick little test I did ( the other images are reffrences I found on google).

Worked a little bit more on this project. Not a great bunch of activity has been going on, but I've started working on the textures a bit! Put in a bit of a fire effect for the candles. Notice that i went for flat colors. Current time and skill level do not allow me to do handpainted textures. I'll look more further into it once I progress! But this game will have to do without the pretty handpainted textures.
The GIF below shows the fire animation and some of the textures that have been made:
Next up is a bit of the coding I've already done:
And last but not least, here is the palette I'm using for my dungeon game. Note that some of the colors have not been used yet. I plan to delete the obsolete ones or add more when I progress:
Well that was the update!
So this week was focused on a few animations. I ended up struggling with them quite a bit. But in the end I really like them!
--------character--------
Here is an overview of the bones. I used max's CAD system to rig the character.
--------Pet--------
The bones for the pet were a bit more of a challenge. These were made using CAD as well but I had to make the default setup myself for them. Base human didn't do the tricks here!
Anyways that was it for this week. I have more free time upcoming week and hope to get more work done by then!
i like the pet and the very basic art style
A fun idea, clear progress and well worded!
I am looking very forward to the coming updates.
I am a big fan of pets and such, so thats a plus in my book.
Btw you said if you feed it too many orbs, it gets too heavy for certain parts and you have to start over?
I dont think thats a very good idea, as well as that it doesnt really feel like fitting your game.
Your game feels like a true dungeon explorer and not just quick round after round of a more arcade styled game.
As such, starting over, could be really harsh?
Anyway, I like the look of the art, end result will look great, and the animations are looking good as well!
Keep going!
Maybe let your pet go on the loose and by doing so it uses a lot of energy thus you need to keep feeding it to balance the right weight or something.
Like the idea!
You can already feel that this is working, the proportions and simplicity of model are done great.
If the pet is increasing in scale, will the model change as well? Like he gets teeth of something?
It would be really cool if he like evolved or something, but this will probably be a lot of work haha.
Anyway, keep it up!
Feeding a pet: you can feed your pet by pressing E and by pressing R you can shrink him down!!!
Leaving your pet: you can leave your pet at a certain spot by pressing Q
Here are some screenshots of the game:
Next Up for this week: Some Models and UI components!
This lil Guy will run around following your every move, annoying isn't he? quickly shoot him down before he calls his buddies and they flock on you!!!
Next up: whats a game without a lil mage? right? guys?
A little turret that shoots in 4 directions? this one is hiding in a manhole, be carefull around those suspicious holes, a turret might pop up!
And last but not least ( I hope this one makes it into the game!) a BOSS!!! model still needs some love!
And I've been messing with some UI ideas:
That's all folks!!!
Health system implemented!!! Works for both enemies and Character! No pictures in the update this week. busy week, you'll just have to trust me on this one :P
Enjoy!
