Beast - Gladwin - WIP

So, I'm pretty new at modeling, and I've never entered a contest before but this looks fun. Here's my initial concept. He's actually a character in a game I'm working on and it fit perfectly.

Formerly one of the four great knights who protected the city of Ardengrave. When the city was overrun, he sought to save his people. In desperation he cast a spell that partially transformed them into owls and gave them the ability to fly. They escaped the destruction of the city, but over the next few months the spell caused them to loose their humanity. Driven by guilt, Gladwin turned himself into a beast, thinking he could join his people in their madness. The spell was successful, however he did not fully loose his mind as his people had, instead he continues to bear the guilt of his actions and is driven by animal rage.

You have nice story. Now you need to sculpt . I like the early head shape I think it can go really nicely. As it goes for body - try to find good reference for muscles. Preferably animal refs. Also I think it would be nice to have some human attribute. Something that'll be part of his former self. Keep going!

Thanks for the input and the resource! And this is my first non-human mesh so I've got a lot to learn, I'll def be studying some muscle references. Work has been busy but hope to make some good progress this week.

Bit of an update. I've worked on his muscle based on a few references (still has a long way to go I think). His shoulder and arm are a combination of human/bear, and his back leg is more of a lion influence. I attached his head to the body which is why it has less detail now, and roughed in the wings.
