Hello everybody. Are spec and gloss maps from DDO legacy compatible with UE4. I tried it and materials looked more diffuse then in marmoset viewer which is bundled with DDO legacy. I inverted gloss map and plugged it in Roughness slot of UE4 shader.

Cheers,

    Hey, N1k!

Out of the box, no - dDo Legacy is a non-PBR texturing tool. You would need to do some hand-calibration to fix its exports up to UE4 standards. This guide from Marmoset may be of assistance. Alternatively, you could use the masks that are generated by dDo Legacy to control material definition in Quixel SUITE. I do this quite frequently myself as I prefer some of the old masks from dDo Legacy. If you'd ever like a guide, I can certainly assist!

Quixel does have a presence on Polycount - feel free to visit us there the next time you have a question!

Thanks Synaesthesia for fast response and great advices. What confused me is that DDO maps looked good  in Marmoset toolbag without any calibration  but not in UE4. I'll try with hand calibration first.

As it stands, the "specular" input in UE4 is entirely different than what is traditionally thought of as the "specular" map. It's used more as a way to get rid of specularity in cavities, than it is to define how bright or dull reflections are over the whole mesh.

Therefore, it will feel incomplete in UE4, if you input spec, gloss, diffuse, etc; because the specular isn't doing what you expect it to.

N1k - that's because the Marmoset viewer in dDo Legacy isn't a PBR viewer. It'll preview things a bit differently than 3DO or Unreal 4 would. If you don't want to buy Quixel SUITE, you can download it and use 3DO as your viewer for calibration purposes. 3DO itself is free and comes bundled with the SUITE. If you'd like to know how to use it to view your textures in real-time, let me know and I'll whip something up for you.
