Hair issue, need help

Hi there
So instead of the hair joining smoothly, the separate planes are showing through.  No idea why, never had this issue (in unity looks even worse). I did transfer vertex normals too.
P.s. What is a good poly count for hair? considering they take very little as individual planes, together they can build up to some proper poly count

    Scruples polycounter lvl 10
    The variation in your diffuse looks weird, painting it so any major variations are along the entire length of the hair bunch should get you a better result. The transition from dark to light isn't helping either.
    & In Unity you're alpha clipping instead of alpha blending.

    It's set to alpha cut in Unity.  Thank you for the tips! Will try them right away (o:!!!
