I got and assignment: In on of my "side projects" im part of a team developing a Unity game (preproduction stage), and i should find out what is the best solution for character hair compatible with UNITY engine, for realtime aplication (game). We need something that is not really much HW intensive (runs on medium to low PC hardware) and is universaly compatible (not just for Nvidia cards for example).
I believe the best approach would still probably be just modeled (mesh) hair with planes with opacity maps... Am i right? If it is that case, what program or plugin for a program (free or payed) would you recommend for "hair customization/creation"? Poser, mixamo Fuse or some plugin even for 3ds max or similiar...?
