When using the F, T, L hotkeys to switch between views, how does it determine where the view starts and is there a way for me to set where it starts since I use those hotkeys a ton and don't like when it starts super zoomed in or far out.
Yes you can... Setup each view the way you like. You can maximize each view by using the quickeys ALT+W to go in and out of fullscreen. Now use; WINDOWSKEY+SHIFT and select which view you desire.
3ds Max viewport switching has the habit of not remembering the previous zoom levels, positions etc... Especially if you switch between more than 4 basic view types ( eg. Top/Right/Left/Bottom/Front/Perspective/Ortho etc, ) This changed a bit to the better in the latest release i think, but it's still suboptimal I wrote an advanced viewport switching script some time ago, which might come in handy http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/powerswitcher-enanced-viewport-switching-release Just install via drag&drop and assign your keyboard shortcuts to the available user actions in the UI configration dialog. The script
brings some more advanced switching features ( like toggle to opposite
view, cycle through cameras/lights etc... ) and remembers all possible
viewport positioning, zoom levels etc . Just give it a go, would be happy to hear some feedback ...
