Substance Painter Vs Photoshop

Since I see everyone creating their textures in substance painter should beginners skip texturing in photoshop and use substance from now on? With the advantages of substance painter is their a reason someone would use photoshop over substance besides just favoring it?

you can use Substance only for texturing, but Photoshop is still heavy involved in the pipeline.

No matter what they're doing, every CG artist should have some PS skills. Although I use SP myself these days, PS(which I learned many years ago) is still such a hub in the whole creation process of nearly everything I do. I'll always use it for years to come.

I would still say learn Photoshop first.  The industry is just still far too dependent on it.  Substance and Quixel are amazing tools for texturing but I still end up tweaking or adjusting stuff for final format in Photoshop regardless.

Substance Painter is pretty nice, but yeah, Photoshop is good to know first to start off with.

Photoshop is an invaluable tool - not just for texturing. Learn that anyway.
I think many people underestimate how quickly the industry is transitioning away from photoshop as a texturing tool. Photoshop is not a texturing tool. We have access to many tools which are texturing tools, and are far better than photoshop at it. Do not assume that photoshop will still be the status quo in 5-10 years.

I figured with new tools coming out that the old ways would become unnecessary but I guess not. Thanks for the advice everyone!

My workflow: Quixel, knald, photoshop = game engine

Could not live without them !
