Slack is apparently adding voice chat and screensharing: http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/28/7917857/slack-buys-screen-sharing-app-screenhero , although I don't know if that's coming to its free version (which we use at the greentooth Slack).I think a 'closed' community like Slack is a better fit for something like this, as you get people who know eachother, and hopefully more active members, and less people who just drop by, ask one question and never contribute.

I set that link to 25 uses. You can set who on the server can invite people, their specific permissions, as well as how long an invite(s) stays active. There's actually quite a bit of control. I would say Slack and Discord both are a similar level of 'closed'ness, but it's up to the admin of said servers.that being said, I'm stoked that slack is adding screensharing... but when? and if it's not free, meeeh. Hangouts and Skype are, even if they aren't built into discord/slack. Integration is nice but I'm not sure I'd want to pay for with free options available.
