How to make this kinda thing?

So this is made in a 3d prog of some kind, but I have no idea where to start making something like this...

Looks more like some kind of fractal algorithm to me? It's probably created in a specialist software.

I think you might be right, I've seen heaps of these visuals at festivals/doofs around Australia, but not been able to track down what makes 'em or how... at least not in my limited searches.

Whoa, I just realised where I recognise your avatar: dude I am a huge fan of your Youtube vids, really great to follow along to while doing work myself. So you have really earned that Wayne 'n Garth gif two times over.
