Low Poly Magic...

Wanted to ping the group and see if anyone has any low-poly tips and tricks...
Currently I'm working on queen of pain (pics below of the high poly). Her low count is 450 on the head... right now my upper horns clock in at 80ish, and lower horn at 50ish poly's hair at 280ish. (leaves about 70-80 poly's to chop down or 30-40 from the horns). (I'll post the low poly later tonight)
My main concern is I'm still kind of new at baking wizardly and how high poly the horns need to be to maintain the curve. Any help or tips/tricks for achieving the low poly build out would be helpful. My main areas of trouble are the ridge on the lower part of the horn, and the curved horns themselves. I'm not sure how many poly's need to be dedicated to closely match the curve of the horns. .

From the front of the horn if we zoom in rather close we see some shading along the edge but it appears off...

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'm not even sure how important this is to resolve, but I'd like to know the technique for my own learning.
