Hi guys I am getting some strong distortion when I am chamfering an edge in 3ds Max 2014. I am following along a tutorial where the user is relying on quad chamfer modifier which isnt available for my version of 3ds max.
Instead I am using regular chamfer but it is getting a bit messed up. There are a lot of ngons in his method of modeeling and what I'm wondering is if the chamfer problems are a directly a cause of the ngons which he doesnt have to worry about because he is using the quad chamfer mod.
About your problem, you have some bad topology to begin with, a few T vertices along that edge. Remove them, or add edges on the other side to make the loops continue around the corner. Also you may have duplicate verts along the edge there.
Thanks guys. I have tried out the quad modifier which seems really good but I am still getting little anomalies. Within the video on youtube the author seems to be able to get away with very poor topology and not suffer any major distortions in his chamfering/turbosmoothing. Is this just a general improvement that has come along with using the latest 3ds max? in 2014 I'm getting pinching even in the interior X sections of my grenade bumps
