Hi everyone,
It's been a very long while since I had anything new to post here
Back in 2009 I modeled the Arts Design and Media center of the Nanyang University in Singapore as part of my graduating project. Back then it took a render farm 20ish minutes per frame.
Now with all the advancements in game engines I wanted to see what's possible in terms of reflections and so I dusted off my old project. I thought it'd be an easy day or two port but I had underestimated how much of a n00b I was back then and so I had to almost redo everything from scratch...
This project has given me a newfound appreciation for game remakes
Anyway, the reflection part ended up being a major pain hahaha
Since SSR as the name implies wont reflect anything that's off camera and the reflection actors are too low res I ended up having to use a cubemap every 2 panes or so. That resulted in roughly 400 unique cubemaps...
It still runs over 60fps on my old computer but when I think efficiency I cringe every time I see that setup.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on it and if you have comments or critiques please let me know
