SF is full of fun touristy stuff, but it's especially great for restaurants and bars.
If you like bars that serve fun drinks, check out Smugglers Cove. They have some of the best (and strongest!) drinks in the city, and almost all of them have a bunch of tasty high quality rum in them. Make sure to get there early because there's always a line and the place gets busy fast. Once you're done there, beat it for someplace quiet. There's a pretty decent burger spot just a couple of blocks away.
If you want to get some delicious late night ice cream, go to Humphry Slocombe either out in the Mission or at the ferry building. Try the Secret Breakfast; it's vanilla ice cream with corn flakes and bourbon.
If you want a good cup of coffee and don't want to go to Starbucks (because you actually want something drinkable), check out Blue Bottle or Philz. Blue Bottle has some of the best black coffee I've ever tasted at a coffee shop, and Philz makes an iced mojito latte that will knock your socks off.
If you want a giant open-face sandwich after a night of GDC parties and debauchery, check out Tommy's Joynt. It's great drunk and/or hangover food.
If you're full of tasty food and booze and you want to escape some of the GDC crowds and find nerdy collectibles, check out Cards and Comics Central. They have a huge selection of statues, action figures, comics, collectible card games, and all kinds of other awesome shit.
If you're more into anime and manga than western comics and such, give Kinokuniya in the Japan Town Mall a shot. Bonus: the downstairs area has a fantastic assortment of movie and video game art books.
Finally:
If you need some cheap and/or high quality booze because you and your friends just want to get trashed in your hotel room, go to BevMo. They have good prices on basically every kind of alcohol you can imagine. If you get one of their membership cards (which is free and doesn't require you to sign up with real information aside from your name and age), you can usually save a good 10-20% off most stuff you buy.
First time going to GDC and I will be showing my game Bears Can't Drift!? I look forward to meeting some awesome polycounters! If you get a chance, go to Moscone South 1024 and come say hi
Been lurking here FOREVER, but have only met a few of you. I'll be trying to attend, not sure how long I can stay and drink - I'm presenting thursday morning. Skylanders character art live demo - shameless plug
I am Alejandro (adrxzero) from the Game Industry Recruiter Taking In Questions Thread, I will be at the GDC meetup as well, looking forward to meeting you all in person.
Currently in the land of old people at Palm Springs, were moving on to San Fran tomorrow in our road trip, excited to get to attend a PC meetup finally.
Hey guys, thanks for coming out! I feel like this year's party was even better than last year. I've got photos and stuff but probably won't get around to processing them until I'm back home.
Had a blast in there, looking forward to the next time I go to GDC! Special thanks to cheeseplus, sean and r13 for the awesome reception! (And Aenok for the drunk badass truthbombs)

That is a gorgeous piece. Where'd you get that printed or did you do it yourself? Also, what material is that made of?
