The viewport in 801 is not physically based and the viewport in 901 is almost physically based (GTR not far from GGX). There is no way to match 801 to the 3do render. Your best bet is to use marmoset.
Here is a test, I followed a guide for bringing in Subsance Painter maps into Modo and just applied the Quixel generated maps. Used the same HDRI from inside Quixel to try and have consistent lighting.

Anyways just do a google search for "Substance Plugin for modo 801 / 901" and go towards the bottom...starts with "Complex Materials: (Recommended for materials that contain metal and non-metal)" I used the same guide with the Quixel maps
