2D animation For games

I am working on a 2D platformer game and i have to create character animation which software would you recommend me to use and also any other software for game cinematic creation.

depends....I mean photoshop is a good all around program though.  the timeline animation in photoshop is pretty good.  Just have to be careful with how you export and stuffs.

What about toon boom..have any experience is it good to use ..?

I usually stick to flash for all of my 2D animation work, just because most companies I've worked for with 2d animation use it. I think Toon Boom is more useful for large tv/movie productions, but if all you want to make are sprite animations photoshop/flash are good enough usually
