We are CMR Games, the creators of the sci-fi epic, ExtroForge: A New Beginning.
We are looking for artists to join our growing team of 10 people, who are interested in being part of something massive.
ExtroForge follows the story of the human race after we have rendered Earth uninhabitable, and our journey to a distant exoplanet called Sorteria:
ExtroForge combines a couple of different genres into an entirely unique experience. The game is played in the first person, on the planet, and on the ships in orbit (Arks). Players begin on the Ark, create a character, and then join one of two factions.
The Republic of Earth:
The People's Democratic State:
Gameplay combines elements of first person shooters (FPS), realtime strategy (RTS), and roleplaying game (RPG).
The game is played in matches that last anywhere from 30 minutes to hours. Two teams of 16 players each are taken via dropship to a random island on the planet. The goal then becomes to establish a colony. The objective is to successfully establish a population for your faction on that island. Colonies are created using an intuitive modular construction engine that allows players to create anything from a small village, to a city:
As you build your colony, you gain a civilian population which you must defend from the enemy. The other enemy is also doing the same thing. You can win with, or without combat. You can annihilate the enemy team's colony, or build yours so successfully that you win the island, and the match. As the islands of the planet exchange hands, the plan is to show an overall map of which faction is controlling Sorteria. Much like a game of Risk.
The game has been in development for 16 months, and we've come a long, long way.
The development team includes a range of talent, from art school grads all the way up to industry veterans who have published game development books, and have done development for clients such as Disney, Sony, MTV, Nickelodeon and more. Our head of development is an engineer at SEGA.
ExtroForge is gorgeously rendered in Unreal Engine 4.
ExtroForge also has an incredibly rich backstory that explores the motivations of the factions, and the fact that this is the second chance for the human race. There's a sense of hope, and fear. The story includes key characters who you interact throughout your character's journey. The game includes missions, rewards, armor and tons of cool weapons.
ExtroForge also explores the history and the mystery of Sorteria itself. It's not all that it appears to be, and players end up experiencing ruthless wildlife, and hints of an ancient race. As players level up, team battles become more epic, and the lore and story works more and more into the experiences.
In ExtroForge, players can be fighters, scouts, pilots, architects, engineers, resource managers, researchers, battle planners, politicians and more. There's so much to do in ExtroForge that every player fills a critical role. The matches are entirely persistent, so on large maps, people can leave, and rejoin later to jump back into the fight, and in fact, the team of 32 will often change as the game progresses. Start a colony. Come back a day later to see how your fellow players are managing it. It could be flourishing, or it could be in ruins.
We're looking for people to join our ranks, in exchange for a royalty (%) and what will turn into a fulltime position once the game is generating revenue. We're still several months from completion. This year we are exploring options for either a crowdfunding campaign, or partnership with a publisher of venture capital. We have several conversations on the go.
We need:
- 3D Character artists. For both player characters, and NPCs (characters from the lore). Modeling, rigging, texturing, animating.
- 3D Creature artists. Sorteria is rich in life, and we have a detailed bestiary, with a few modeled so far. We need modeling, rigging, texturing, animating.
- 3D Environment artists. Everything from trees, to rocks, to ruins. Modeling, rigging, texturing.
- 3D Prop creation. Buildings, modular structures, weapons, vehicles, ships and more.
- Effects. Particles, explosions, lighting. For everything from weapon effects, to special effects when building, harvesting resources, leveling up, you name it.
- 2D. User Interface, design, even web and print layout.
- Animation. General animation for various things. Cut Scenes, sequences, building effects, etc.
- Promotional: Videos, trailers, etc.
And of course, if you're keen on engineering, we're also welcoming engineers with experience in C++ or Blueprints in Unreal Engine 4.
Here's a work-in-progress opening sequence for the game:
