Hi, I have tried to recreate a low poly version of the ship Guristas from EVE Online. what want to know what i could do to improve it i kept the model under 400 polygons.
You should start creating the ship as perfectly as possible as a high poly model then once that is done bake that detail down to your low poly model. Currently you are missing a good portion of the ship's silhouette. The wing, rear end, and lower front are the most in need of remedying.
thanks for your feedback. i though it was good to create a low poly than a high poly. i will develop a high poly. Do you have anything i should try to improve? any help it appreciated.
Most people create a blockout mesh, then the high poly, then create the low poly thereafter that matches the high poly. Some people as they are creating the high poly will save out a mesh the is a Medium poly, this can be much easily reduced right before it is subdivided.
Right now I would finish the blockout mesh you have. It looks low poly so it can serve as the block out. once you capture the silhouette then move on to the high poly. Find better reference images of this ship to make it easier.
This ship in game already looks fairly low poly so perhaps you could even make it a bit more defined yourself as a portfolio piece if that is your intention.
