I decided I wanted to do some Metal Gear fan art, and Fatman seemed like a fun option. Right now I'm pretty much just blocking things in and getting a feel for how I want him to look. The end goal for this project is to make a game ready version to plop into Marmoset Viewer.
I'll try to post my progress fairly regularly. Any thoughts or critiques are very welcome!

keep it up
Robeomega, thanks for the input, totally agree. I'm going to work on this a bit tonight, fattening him up is definitely gonna be one of the things I tackle.
I fattened him up a bit, separated the arms from the torso to make things easier as I progress, and I started blocking in the extra layers of padding. I'm going to start cleaning up the jacket a bit and spend a bit of time figuring out the forms and flow of the major folds.
I wasn't satisfied with the overall proportions, and there were certain things that I wanted to flesh out a bit more to get a better sense of where I wanted to go with this.
Here's where I'm at now:
He's a bit taller now, and I shrank his head and feet a bit. I also started adding in a few more elements, and worked up parts of the jacket a bit more. Any critiques are very welcome.
I already retopoed a majority of him, so once I finish up with all the sculpting, I should be able to jump in the baking and texturing phase pretty fast.
Can't wait to see the end result. Those folds in particular are looking really nice!
I totally agree about the underrated part. He's such a unique character, and probably one of the only video game bosses with roller blades.
Managed to get some more work in here and there over the week. Pretty much all the pieces are there and where I want them. I'm going to continue to do a bit more polish on him, and if everything goes according to plan, I'd like to finish the retopo and get some initial bakes done this weekend. Here's some quick screen grabs of where he's at right now:
First pass of the low poly done!
He's at around 60k tris right now with normal maps, rendered in marmoset really quick. After a bit of clean up, and rebaking a few pieces, I'm going to go through and clean up some of the geo a bit further and then start up on texturing.
I've still got a lot more polish I'd like to do, and then I need to take a quick pass at the geo and get some of that cleaned up in a few places.
I still have a bit of work I want to do, especially on the pockets, but I think I'm going to pose him first before I continue working on the materials, so I can see him a lot closer to how he'll be in the final renders first.
Over the past week, I posed him, played with the lighting a bit, and continued polishing the textures. I want to continue polishing the textures a bit and create some kind of simple base.
I'll work on the skin next and see if I can get it to a better place.
Thanks for the help everyone!
