Hello Everyone,
I have been having an issue with 3DS Max acting up with textures. I have read about Gamma issues and even video card issues but I just built a new computer with i7 and a GTX960 graphics card so I dont think its the video card.
So, the problem is when I render my UV template (usually 1024x1024 PNG (48bit)) into photoshop and i finish texturing how I would like the model to look, the viewport in 3DS Max differs from what I am seeing in photoshop or even 3DS Max render window.
I have added a couple of pictures so you guys can see what I am talking about
http://imgur.com/rKtQ7tG - this one is a sample box with the weird color gradation in the 3ds max viewport
http://imgur.com/cvD7NRa - here is the ugly thing that I have been running into.
http://imgur.com/i6ruB22 - this is what I want it to look like in the viewport so i can see the textures as i work on it.
http://imgur.com/D76ISmG - just another sample of what I am talking about.
Again, I have tried turning off Auto-Gamma which makes the viewport darker but that's not the desired solution either. I have tried running it as Admin with no luck.
Has anyone else encountered this problem before with color banding and gradation??
Is there something I am missing somewhere, a button i hit perhaps, or is it photoshop or 3ds max.
Programs:
Windows 7
2016 3DS MAX SP2
PHOTOSHOP CC 2015
Hardware:
GeFORCE GTX960 (Updated)
Intel i7-4790k
BenQ 27" Dual Monitor
Thanks in advance guys.

After a long day of testing this problem, i figured out why my textures in 3DS Max viewport were acting fuzzy or weird.
It was a Gamma/LUT setting. I guess there is a huge difference when 3DS Max saves settings while opened and re-opening the software.
So here is what was happening in the viewport to my textures/gradation.
As you can see, the viewport textures are just horrible. BUT, when rendered it looks exactly how I wanted it to look. So, I went into the customize > preferences > Gamma/LUT > turned off Gamma, and got the following:
notice how the white circles are now gradating normally but somehow shrank and got dark.
This is where I realized what if I re-opened 3DS Max (WITH) Gamma/LUT settings off.
So, I closed 3DS Max and checked once I opened it if Gamma was turned off (it was), then proceeded to open my file.
Finally my model and texture is now displaying exactly like my Photoshop textures in the 3DS Max Viewport, now I can texture back and forth with no banding.
There you go! It's working.
Hopefully, if anyone is having the same issue, just restart MAX but making sure Gamma is OFF before opening your model and if a prompt comes up asking whether to keep system/file Gamma settings, pick the one with Gamma OFF.
Thanks Guys,
Hope that helps
