Hello guys! I've been struggling with 8K texturing. Every software that using 8K textures becoming very very slow. Rendering, painting textures on mari etc. In photoshop its workable. But its not for render. When i click render button maya becomes not responding like 5 minutes then it starts rendering. Its really painful. I have 16gb ram, I7 -4770, gtx 780, Z97-D3H motherboard with normal Western digital hard drive.
P.S i do know rendering gets slow when texture size is high :P

If GPU was the issue. In marmoset toolbag or other realtime rendering engine would've slowed down. But it wasn't the issue :P
anyway 8K does not sound like a really useable resolution. i have a slightly faster machine than you and can feel the strain already with 4K and many layers/texture channels. memory requirements spin out of control really quickly. i'd look into splitting up large textures into smaller ones and then isolating the texture tiles that are currently being worked on, replacing finished ones with low res proxies.
not sure if mari has the functionality but e.g. in mudbox you can load/unload tiles manually.
