I recently "upgraded" to windows 10 and I've had nothing but trouble with it. I can't load any applications like 3dsmax, substance painter or Photoshop for more than 20 - 30 mins without getting the BSOD "Driver_Power_state_failure"
The fault lies in the operating system not being 100% compatible with Nvidia's software/drivers and as a result the applications that need my GPU encounter errors and crash... It has been a very frustrating 2 weeks trying to fix this issue and at last I have thrown in the towel and dug out my windows 7 CD.
Has anyone else had these same issues? I know a few fixes but they are temporary.

I don't think defective hardware causes this issue. The laptop I'm using is brand new and was tested before I bought it.

Let us know if you get it resolved!
I'll run the verification 3 times and see what happens. Update soon,
I found out what the problem was. The PnP generic driver failed to install correctly during windows update. Because of that it was causing the Nvidia driver to crash when using programs like Substance painter and 3dsmax.
I fixed the issue but decided I wanted to use good old windows 7 instead, just until windows 10 before more stable.
I had your issue before on windows 8, i'd be working then boom blue screen! Eventually it got to the point where windows wouldn't load for more than a few seconds before crashing. But i noticed things would be fine in safe mode. It's not a windows issue specifically but an issue with windows storing old driver data and a normal uninstall not getting rid of it.
I'm pretty sure my blue screen error read the same too. that "generic" driver is really a super old left over driver of some kind, you'll see what a real generic driver looks like once you run the tool above. If you can run your computer at 1080p resolution you're not on a generic driver
Use the tool i linked above to uninstall all your graphics driver history and and then reinstall and you'll be fine.
windows 7 crashed almost everything I loaded and the laptop wouldn't shut down lol.
should be getting it back soon with info on what was wrong.
Went back to Win 8 now and I fear the day when I can't avoid Win 10 anymore.
pc.
I sent the laptop back to the guys at PC specialist as I suspected there were hardware faults. After the first week the techs suspected there were compatibility issues with windows 10 and the Ram, but after testing new ram in the system this theory proved wrong.
The technicians spent a few extra days trying to figure out what was wrong and finally they think they've found a fix, it was something to do with the CPU. They found an update released recently by Intel that fixes the problem, apparently. Currently my laptop is in the testing phase and I will receive an update in the morning.
The techs are certain it is now fixed, so fingers crossed.
