New Homeworld game being made by Blackbird Interactive, using Unity as their game engine! Very very impressed with this. http://www.desertsofkharak.com/
This is Hardware: Shipbreakers under a different name; the Homeworld stuff has been tacked on later.
...kind of. Aaron Kambeitz explained that while they were writing the original story for Hardware, he was quietly keeping some pretty exhaustive notes on how it could fit into the Homeworld mythos with surprisingly few tweaks.
Then they got the Homeworld license from Gearbox after it was auctioned, and BAM, it assumed its final form.

Nope. Not even a little. I actually played Hardware in it's early forms. When they teamed up with Gearbox which allowed them to use the homeworld ip, they changed the entire game. Rebuilt it from the ground up. Or so it seems. 1 things for sure, this is NOT what I played before. Not even close.

but one thing; when i saw the first trailer of hardware i kind started hoping it would revolve around scavaging the old shipwrecks and stuff. now in this latest trailer it looks very standard rts, like the 3d dune game and such. not that thats is so bad, we havent had that many rts's the latest 10 years, so its welcome, i was just, kind of hoping on something survivalistic and crafty. like the huge shipwrecks would be more than just pretty scenery
so I'm guessing the storyline will be the discovery and eventual recovery of the guide stone... some kiths will be for it, some against it.
This is basically what we're expecting, since that backstory has been established since the manual for HW1 in '99. Kiith Gaalisen is not what you would call "receptive" to some of the more secular, scientific pursuits of Kiith S'jet, Soban, Manaan, etc.
I haven't been this excited for a game since supreme commander. *drool* -Dat unit movement -The cutscenes -Paul Ruskay music! -Strong focus on multiplayer -12 hr campaign, with persistent fleets. This is everything i wanted and more... i hope!
Yeah i am really looking forward to this, love the homeworld games so much and its cool to get a game with the backstory, and even know it isnt a space game with the full 3d movement it looks like they are still doing cool things with height
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVh_E657bFA great video with some more information on the game, i really hope these guys do well you can tell they put a lot of work into this and want to make a truly great game.
stellar stuff, just finished the campaign last night. BBI captured everything from the original games without making it feel like a cheap nostalgia trip. The cinematics give me chills down the spine
Finished the single-player campaign a couple of night ago and really enjoyed the whole experience. Check out some of the beautiful vehicle art on Victor Kam's ArtStation Page: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/D9aro
I looked at the info on early versions from the expedition guide, and in some ways wish things had gone that direction. Not that DoK isn't good by any measures... but Shipbreakers feels more like exploration and experimental in terms of game play than DoK.
