Xgen place primitives in one line

Dear All,
I would like to make a fence with xgen, so I want it to place a primitive box in one line (or in a line defined by a function ). Where should I add expression which controls its location u and v coordinates?
Or is there any other easy way (without mel or python) to duplucate with random transform?
