Rigging Hydraulic Piston With 2 Joints On Ends

I've been trying to figure out the best way to rig this so that I can pose the top plate and the pistons will move as expected. I'm new to rigging and I found this blog (http://techartandstuff.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/how-to-rig-universal-joint-in-maya.html) that I thought would be helpful, seemed similar enough to be used in my situation but I'm running into issues with my"journal" pieces. They don't point in the correct direction of the locators. Any suggestions as to how I should parent this to get it to work correctly?

Looks like you're just using the wrong aim vector. You have it set to X (1,0,0) whereas it should be Y (0,1,0).

Ok, So i got that straight. Now I need help with the logic. Who drives who? Worst part is I only have 3 hours a day to work on this right now.

Well, I wasn't able to get it to work. Simplified the model.
