Well I decided I would start a thread here and see how it goes, for my first post I wanted to talk about improving my thumbnails/shape language with my character designs, these are all based on artwork by Angus Mcbride btw.
I started with this guy

He's not bad, but I wanted better, pretty unhappy with my exaggeration and shape language here so i decided to do some studies and try to make thumbnails where I focus exaggeration as my goal, looking back I should have tried to get a more square shape language character in there but I really like the more circular heavily armored one.

I think I could have pushed them a lot further , especially the second one. But still improved over my first painting above. Also I'm starting to go for a more cartoony, anime-inspired style, I've done semi-realism before but its not my thing.
Anyhow, I'll keep posting some attempts to improve my work and some sketches, hope you enjoy.
