Zbrush alpha size

Hey i created a brush but when i try to use it zbrush gets really slow and starts to lag i assume this is due my alpha size what is a proper image size for your alpha?

It depends how much detail is in it. I tend to go for 512*512. Lower if it's something really simple

maybe 256 or 512
